Campo blanco, semillas negras - ¿quién puede sembrar? El enigma se refiere a la capacidad de escribir, una habilidad que en la mayoría de los países nórdicos no se consideraba necesario para todos. Y sin embargo, un número significativo de la gente común que no tenía acceso a la educación formal, tomó la pluma y produjo una variedad de textos de gran interés: diarios, cartas, memorias, colecciones de folklore y periódicos escritos a mano.
Esta colección presenta el trabajo de los académicos principalmente nórdicos de campos como la lingüística, la historia, la literatura y los estudios folklóricos que comparten un interés en la producción, difusión y recepción de los textos escritos por los no privilegiados a lo largo del siglo XIX.
